About Me

Hi, my name is Blake Gallien and I'm an Underwater Photographer & PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
I was born in the United States and grew up in Paris and have been fascinated with all things marine related for as long as I can remember - be it aquariums, fish or the sea itself. I first began exploring the underwater universe and becoming increasingly fascinated with its inhabitants at age 9, while spending summers snorkeling on the French Riviera. Passionate about marine life and already feeling at home in the water, I first discovered diving while on a discovery trip in Vietnam in 2006 and was hooked.
After 3 years both working and completing initial coursework towards a degree in Marine Biology, I completed my Master Scuba Diver certification in the South of France. At that point I decided find a way to combine my passions of Diving, Photography and Marine Science and dedicated the following year to going professional.
While doing my Divemaster in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand in May 2013, I was increasingly struck by the beauty of the underwater universe and wanted to find a way to capture and share my experiences and so my underwater photograpy began. While doing my PADI Dive Instructor Certification, I invested in equipment and (self-taught, began building a portfolio) which ultimately led me to be hired by the prestigeous Stuart Cove’s in the Bahamas where I worked full time as and Underwater Photographer and learned to use DSLR camera equipment.
My love of the water is a constant thread, but when not under its surface, I enjoy traveling, discovering new cultures and meeting new people. Camera in hand. I created this website in order to showcase some of my work and hope you enjoy it. (You can find more information on my photos on FB BG Photography link.)
